About Rob Black
Rob originally trained as research psychologist
specializing in measurement and statistics, and participated in many
research projects in education, psychology and marketing.
He left
this field for a number of years to investigate non-linear
approaches to being in the world, studying a variety of approaches,
from biofeedback to eastern healing and mysticism to North American
aboriginal spiritualism. When he returned to Calgary, he was able to
apply some of these learnings as a counsellor for new Canadians in a
large ESL program.
Of all the approaches that he had investigated, Rob found that the method developed by Dr. Moshé Feldenkrais had the
most profound framework for understanding the human condition. He began the
4-year FELDENKRAIS® training in 1987.
Rob began to contribute to the Feldenkrais community in 1993, and soon
was elected to the Board of Directors of the Feldenkrais
Guild of North America (FGNA) . He was awarded a special award of excellence in 1999. From 2000
to 2005 he was on the Board of International Feldenkrais Federation (IFF),
and traveled extensively for the IFF. In 2008 Rob was again elected to the Board of Directors of FGNA. in 2010 he was elected President of FGNA.
Rob currently maintains a small, vibrant Feldenkrais practice in
balance with his family life and a faculty position at a local College.
